My Approach to Couples Work

I love working with couples. While conflict is usually what brings couples through the door, I like to focus on the root of the problem — because the "problem" is often not really the problem at all. Instead, I focus on the enduring mental, emotional, and behavioral patterns that stem from childhood and tend to resurface in our closest relationships. I help each partner understand how they react when they feel unseen, unheard, unappreciated, disappointed, hurt, let down, lonely, overwhelmed, scared, stressed, or helpless. Often, it's these old, familiar ways of responding to difficult emotional states that fuel cyclical conflict. My goal is to increase awareness of these patterns so we can build new responses together — ones that strengthen your connection and help heal old attachment wounds.

My approach draws on the foundational principles of the Gottman Method alongside the relational, no-nonsense framework of Terry Real, blending research-backed tools with an honest, in-the-moment presence in the room. As an out-of-network provider, I don't assign a diagnosis when it comes to couples work — I believe the relationship itself is the client, not either individual within it.

I work best with couples who want more than a neutral sounding board. If you're looking for a therapist who will speak candidly from her own felt sense, name what's happening between you as it's happening, and do it all with compassion — not judgment — we may be a good fit.
